Arpillera: Media for Trauma Healing

KAIL organized two ARPILLERA trainings, as media for community organizing in Bandung, 18 of February and 19th of March 2007. Arpillera is a handmade art using unused clothes.

It was developed in Chile by oppressed women who loose their sons and husbands under Pinochet regime. It has been used as media for women to work together facing their trauma and sadness, and communicate it to outside world.

In Indonesia, Arpillera was used by UPLINK (Urban Poor Linkage) as media for trauma healing for urban poor women who experienced evictions and Acehnese women, who experienced tsunami in 2004. Since then, KAIL also use it as media for facilitation and training.
Beside trauma healing, arpillera is also used for visioning




KAIL supported TNGP Volunteers

In 2003, KAIL runned series of personal development program for volunteers in Gede Pangrango National Parks (TNGP). This workshop were done in collaboration with YPBB. YPBB has been working with TNGP for many years.

TNGP volunteers works in various ways to conserve the national parks while at the sametime time ensuring the livelihood of the people who lives around it. Many of those volunteers has played a significant roles in creating change to sustainability in Cibodas area, ranging from bird conservation to tree replanting, from waste management to eco-tour guide.

So far, KAIL had runned 5 workshops as follows:
1)Villa Ikan, 24 June 2003;
2)CIBA, 26-27 Agust 2003;
3)KEPAK, September 2003;
4)Ginapala, November 2003, and
5)Telaga Warna, December 2003.

KAIL supported community leaders from Bojonegoro


Since early 2008, KAIL supported community leaders capacity building. The project was a collaboration between KAIL and IBEKA.

The process consisted of three serial modules which were runned in January and April 2008. All community leaders came from Bojonegoro, one of IBEKA working area.

By the end of the training it is hoped that all participants could come up with ideas of project that can promote sustainable development in their area.

KAIL supported Urban Poor Consortium

Since 2005-2008, KAIL supported Urban Poor Consortium, Jakarta and Urban Poor Linkage, an NGO networks working for urban poor communities in 14 cities in Indonesia.

The support was in the form of series of capacity building for Urban Poor Community Leaders. The topics of capacity building were: Facilitation skills, How to Use Games as tools for community organizing, and Problems Analysis and Activity Planning.

Beside that, several KAIL staffs also facilitated the annual meeting of UPC and UPLINK from 2005-2009.
